BAS03: Major Project 2012

THE LOUNGE ON REGENT

My major project aimed at changing the structure of zoning on a main street (Regent Road, Sea Point) to establish pre-design constraints that would drive the design towards a product that integrates public street life to its maximum potential. The project was based on Kevin Lynch's studies in, 'The Image of the City' to try to create a building that evokes a strong image in a city dwellers mind.

BAS03: Manifesto Project

EXHIBITION SPACE

The manifesto aimed at creating a temporary space that was both flexible and easy to construct. Movable exhibition panels means that people can interact with the architecture creating a fun and sociable space.

THE CREATIVITY FACTORY

The intention was to re-script the derelict factories that intended to power Cape Town's community into a space for creative collaboration. In this project, Max Polikansky's cigarette factory becomes an interchange for all creative industries. The structure allows for a flexible system and can be constructed upon request for a work/exhibition space.

The idea was inspired by the Woodstock exchange.

BAS02: Mowbray Project

MULTI-PURPOSE BUILDING

The idea of the building was to create an Urban Artifact with which people fill in as required. The building is fitted with prefabricated elements that may easily be adjusted or changed according to the use of the spaces. The tall building block protects the rest of the site from harsh North Westerly winds. Noise from the taxi rank is also protected. Spaces for informal traders, seating and planting are provided on the taxi rank facade.

BAS01: Artist's Lense

Resting Place on hiking trail.

The structure plays with light. A new experience of the landscape. Viewing portions of the landscape directed to information by natural light beams creates an interactive experience. Users learn about portions of the landscape through experienceing the building.
